Windows 10 Disk Space
Windows 10 has been the mainstay PC operating system for both home and business for years. For the most part, it works, as long as you do a bit of maintenance several times a year.
Windows 10 is a pack rat, unless you take action, it will slowly but surely fill your disk with old temporary files, updates to updates and general junk.
The good news is that although Windows is rotten at cleaning up after itself, a couple of simple commands and a little time will allow you to force it to get rid of the accumulated junk which will recover space and speed your computer back up.
To get started we will use the Windows 10 Cleanup Manager. This program is already installed, you just need to know it should be run periodically.
-
Open a command prompt with Administrator privliges by typing “CMD” in the search box, Windows will display the an icon for CMD. Right click the icon and select “Run as Administrator”
-
Type the command “cleanmgr.exe /SageSet:65535”
-
Scroll through the listed categories in the pop-up window, select those that you would like the cleanmgr program to clear
-
When you are finished with the selections press OK
-
Type the command “cleanmgr.exe /SageRun:65535” The cleanmgr program will run with the selections you previously made and then exit
When cleanmgr finishes you will have removed the cruft and temporary files that Windows leaves laying around. Shutdown and restart your computer for that shiny new computer feeling.
